Dr. Ronald Shapiro is the Medical Director of Shapiro Medical Group and an internationally recognized leader in follicular unit hair transplantation. Widely respected for his influence on modern hair restoration technique, Dr. Shapiro has helped shape the field through clinical innovation, physician education, academic contribution, and live surgical demonstration.

In 2003 and 2010, Dr. Shapiro co-authored Hair Transplantation, 4th Edition, a major medical textbook used by physicians around the world to study advanced hair restoration surgery. His contributions have helped define best practices in follicular unit transplantation, natural hairline design, and surgical precision.

Dr. Shapiro was one of the first physicians in the United States to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery in 1997. That same year, he was selected to serve on the Board of Governors of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. In 2005, he received the ISHRS Golden Follicle Award, one of the field’s highest honors, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the clinical advancement of hair transplantation surgery.

Throughout his career, Dr. Shapiro has lectured at more than 40 conferences across more than 25 cities and has performed live surgical demonstrations for physicians worldwide. He also holds the distinction of being the first physician invited to perform a live demonstration of Microscopic Follicular Unit Transplantation at the ISHRS annual meeting.

In addition to his work at Shapiro Medical Group, Dr. Shapiro serves as an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Instructor in the University of Minnesota Department of Dermatology, where he lectures residents on hair restoration surgery. He is also a founding member on the Board of Governors of the World FUE Institute, reflecting his continued leadership in the advancement of follicular unit excision.

Dr. Shapiro’s influence extends far beyond his own clinic.
